Bio
Brother Jonathan is a solo project from Jack Alcock. He is originally from Wellington in Somerset, but currently lives in Essex. He draws influence from artists such as Neil Young, John Martyn, Kurt Cobain, Damien Jurado and The Smiths. His melancholic sound weaves intellectual lyrics with somber vocals, telling stories from his past and unpicking his own thoughts through his verses.
Ranging between warm, clean guitar tones and full, gritty drive to take listeners on a journey from song to song. He has played live shows across the UK including Neverworld Festival, Leigh Folk Festival and Peddler Sheffield and was due to support Will Varley in June before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Springs
‘Springs’ is the fifth release from Brother Jonathan, shifting gear from the subdued sounds of ‘Honey’ into a heavier, more gritty sound. Recorded in his home town of Wellington, Somerset at Hollow Home Studios with the help of Electric Kool Aid Acid Test/ The Helters’ Davey Roberts, ‘Springs’ offers huge overdrive, melancholic vocals, rolling drums and swelling brass sections. Lyrically, Brother Jonathan draws on personal anxieties, existential crises and coping strategies to express himself through his work.
